RUFC - Lids 'Mistakes cost us'

Rotherham United Caretaker Manager, Andy Liddell was left disappointed after the three-one defeat against Shrewsbury Town this evening at Don Valley.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the game, he said, 'I'm didn't get too excited when we won six-nil and I'm not going to get too negative when we lost three-one but it was disappointing because we made mistakes. But, no disrespect to any of our lads or the lads in League Two but they do make mistakes, the ones who don't make mistakes are in the Premier League. But, if we could eradicate the mistakes then we'd be a better team but you can't berate them for mistakes because everyone makes them. You just have to get on with it, that's life.

'Shrewsbury are a good team and good luck to them. We worked hard but just made too many mistakes and that, along with a bit of a dodgy decision, cost us tonight. But I won't have a go at them for their effort because they worked really hard out there on a sapping pitch and that's what we ask for. I defy anyone out there to tell me those lads didn't work hard because they were chasing to the end'

Talking about the second goal tonight, which was a penalty, Lids said, 'It was a foul but I couldn't tell if it was inside the area but, it stopped at source because it hit the guys hand. I asked the referee politely what he thought he'd seen and he said he saw ball to hand, which I think is hand ball.'

Once again, Adam Le Fondre was on the bench, though he did come on and score the Millers only goal of the game and Lids said, 'I don't worry about Alfie's goals. He's took being left out of the team fantastically well, as all the other players have. Like I've said, we've got a big squad and they're all going to be used.

'Fenton and Cresswell are both injured and I don't know if they are going to be fit for Saturday, I'll leave that with Denis (Circuit) and Warney and I made the decision to withdraw Luke Ashworth at half-time and Jason Taylor had to come on and go in at centre-half because we had nobody else

'I don't expect any of our team to be sulkers. I expect them to come in on Thursday and get ready for training and get ready to go for a big game on Saturday.

'We're still in the mix for a top three finish and I don't think there's any doubt that it will go right to the wire and hopefully we'll be in there fighting.'
