RUFC - Lidds 'not good enough'

RUFC - Lidds 'not good enough'

Rotherham United caretaker Manager, Andy Liddell was at a loss to explain the lack of confidence in his Rotherham team this afternoon as they went down one-nil to Morecambe at Don Valley.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the one-nil defeat at Don Valley, Lidds said, 'I`m lost for words because I can`t understand where the lack of confidence came from today. I did not see that coming, not one little bit. It was surprising because nobody has tried to get their confidence up like me, Warney and the staff. If you go on a pitch, it doesn`t matter if you`re playing a good team or a bad team, lacking confidence. Now we`ve got to try and build that confidence up again. We`ll work hard in training next week like we have this week

'It`s not a good enough performance. It lacked tempo, lacked quality, lacked confidence. You can carry one or two players but not that amount with the result being what happened today. There`s no cutting round it, it wasn`t good enough and it`s disappointing.

'We had a couple of half chances but it wasn`t good enough by a million miles. I thought it was a poor game all over but if you don`t score you don`t win.

'There were no positives to take from today at all. We didn`t look like a team who were going for things and players have to take responsibilities for their own performances. And they will.

'Unfortunately, it`s hard to put your finger on what went wrong. I`ll watch the DVD and pick things up but today, nobody can say that Rotherham deserved to get anything out of that game because we were too poor. The players have let themselves down and I want the players to go on there and be confident. But today, that just didn`t happen, for whatever reason it is. Any idiot can see that it wasn`t good enough today and performances like that won`t get Rotherham to where Rotherham want to be.

'It`s not nice to get beat, the players don`t like it, nobody likes it but you`ve got to get on with it and we`ve another game next week and we`ve got to go for that. It`s not mathematically impossible to get into the top three but the players are making it very hard and I`ve told them that.`
