'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Mullins 'we can still do it'

Rotherham United defender, Johnny Mullins says that everyone is in a positive mood at the club and thinks that promotion is still possible.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield the former Stockport player said, 'We`ve had a dip in form recently but this is the business end of the season and we`ve got six games left and they are really six must win games.`

Asked about the recent roller coaster the Millers have been on, the twenty-six year old said, 'It started at Chesterfield really with the hammering we took and then Ronnie (Moore) left. Then Lidds (Andy Liddell) came in and it was a great result at Lincoln and the last two home games, we`d targeted as getting six points from, and we didn`t perform to the level we wanted to and now find ourselves in a position in the table where we don`t want to be.

'Going to Chesterfield, a team we wanted to beat because they`re at the top of the league and it being live on television, well it was a major low. Then to go to Lincoln and win six-nil the week after and put in a tremendous performance then we brought ourselves down again. But, that`s football. You have the high`s and low`s and I think you`ve not got to get too upbeat when you`re winning and not get too down when you`re losing. It`s easy to say but that`s what Lidds and Warney (Paul Warne) are trying to keep us all going.

'We had a long meeting this morning (Monday) and we`re upbeat. We addressed the problems we have and how we want to go about resolving them. It`s not been good enough of late and there`s only us as a group of players in the dressing room who can rectify that.`

Talking about players being out of contract and asked if there was a feeling amongst any of the players that they are just playing out the season and not get injured, Johnny said he doubted that. 'Although I can see why those sort of accusations do get chucked around after Saturday`s showing against Morecambe, but no, I haven`t seen that. As far as we are all aware we are all pulling in the same direction and we`ve all got the same goal. Promotion is a great thing to have on your CV and we are all desperate to get that and we`re all fighting in each others corner.

'With these remaining six games we genuinely believe that if we win them then we will end up where we want to be.`

Finally, Johnny was asked what he thought of Lidds as a Manager and he replied, 'I think he`ll be a good one. He knows what he`s talking about and his approach to football is very positive. He`s enjoying every day with the training and he let`s us know when we`re not being good enough. He`s told us that he`s still learning and all us players are learning. It`s been like a breath of fresh air when he`s come in with Warney and we hope to get the results for each other and hope Lidds can push on.

'But, at the minute, it`s about six games and six wins and it doesn`t really matter how they come. It`s about re-grouping and mental strength is imperative after a disappointing week. We`ve got to be mentally tough and mentally strong because we go to Cheltenham next who had a hammering on Saturday and they`ll have the bit between their teeth, but so will we. After losing to Morecambe in the fashion we did, beating Cheltenham is massive now.`
