'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Warrington Out

Rotherham United's Paul Warne says that an injury goalkeeper Andy Warrington sustained on Saturday is 'pretty horrendous.'

Speaking to MillersPlayer, Warney said, 'Someone jumped on his foot and when we looked at it after the game his skin was hanging off his toe. You could pull the skin away and see the bones and the tendons and when he went for a shower, he put his foot in a plastic bag, and came out with a pool of blood round him.

'He's chipped the bone as well.

'He's had an operation on it today and I think he is going to be out for a good ten days. 'It means that Jamie (Annerson), who we like and respect, will come in and do a job.'

Physio, Denis Circuit said that Andy had come through the operation well, 'It wasn't a serious injury, it was just awkward. It was all done with local anaesthetic. It was a bad cut that continued under the nail and the nail has had to be removed. He goes back next Tuesday to see the consultant and a couple of days after that we'll have an X-ray done just to see because there was a slight fracture. But, hopefully, once the wound has healed he'll be able to come in and start light work.

'The soft tissue should heal within eight to ten days and, depending on the fracture, it could be three to four weeks, but, we'll know more at the end of next week. I'll be surprised if it's going to be longer than four weeks from last Saturday.'

Asked about skipper Ryan Cresswell, Warney said, 'He's not so bad. We've done a lot of extra work with him because we need to get him a little bit fitter and sharper. But, he should be fighting for a place come the weekend. '

Denis Circuit added, 'He's done a lot of stamina work and strength work and the next couple of days he'll be working hard again and he should be back in full training on Thursday.

'Ian Thomas-Moore has been struggling with a little injury too. But, we are hoping he will be fit for this weekend and able to play a part,' Warney said and Denis Circuit admitted it was a strange injury. ' It's something and nothing really. He felt a slight strain when he volleyed a ball in training and thought nothing of it. We expected him to train yesterday but he still wasn't right but we are very hopeful that he's going to be OK for this weekend. '

Warney finished by saying, 'We've told all the lads that they are fighting for their shirts. We played well at Lincoln and I think we've played well at times against Shrewsbury but Saturday was unacceptable. We had a meeting yesterday, and it wasn't a shouting, screaming meeting, we just told it like it was.

'All the staff are going to watch the Reserves tonight away and if anyone performs well in that game they will be in contention to play at the weekend.

'I wanted to play but I've been told I've no chance of playing so I'm not in contention.'

Warney, the ever optimist, says 10 days. Denis, the physio, says 4 weeks. Now, who do we believe?!
