RUFC - Reserve Lose to Blades

Rotherham United Reserves 1 Sheffield United Reserves 4

Rotherham United Reserves were beaten this evening at Don Valley by Sheffield United Reserve.

The visitors 'keeper was soon in the action when a Liam Henderson lob was easily saved by him in the opening minutes. But it was the visitors who looked more like scoring and they had two chances firstly Jack Leyden in the Millers' goal got his hands to a Kingsley James shot and a minute later Erik Tonne saw his shot rattle the woodwork before going out to safety. But young Leyden could do nothing about the first goal when it came on twenty-five minutes. Danny Philiskirk sent a swerving ball in from the edge of the area which bent into the bottom corner of the net. Callum Kennedy came close to equalising minutes later but couldn't keep his shot down and it flew over the goal. On forty minutes the Millers got a free-kick which was taken quickly and fell to David McAllister of Sheffield United. He made it into the box without being challenged and his shot was palmed away by Leyden only to fall to Kristoffer Lokberg who toe poked the ball in for the visitors second. In the dying seconds of the half, Marcus Marshall did well to evade a number of challenges from the opposition, get into the area and slide the ball past Askalu to half the Blades lead.

Leyden was alert in the opening minutes of the second half and did well to save from Erik Tonne and, at the other end, Henderson got a good ball from Paul Warne but his shot from distance went well wide. The Blades nearly got a third from Seamus Conneely but his shot went just past the post but on seventy-two minutes it was three when Tonne back heeled for Andras Gardos who smashed the ball in the net. Three minutes later and it was four, after Tonne again did well and got the ball to Jordan Chappell who side-footed the ball into the net. Near the end of the game Tonne brought off another good save from Leyden when the Millers' 'keeper did ever so well to get his finger tips to a twenty-five yard shot and put it over the bar.
