RUFC - Former Miller Dies

Former Rotherham United right-back, Peter Perry has sadly passed away.

Rotherham born Peter made his debut for the Millers in the final game of the 1957/8 season and soon became a regular in the side. He scored twelve goals becoming the penalty taker where he used to smash the ball as hard as he could into the roof of the net.

Peter was in the side that played in the first ever League Cup Final against Aston Villa and played over one hundred league and cup games for the Millers before moving to York City in 1962.

Peter`s funeral will take place on Thursday, 28th April 2011 at the City Road Crematorium in Sheffield

I had the pleasure of playing cricket with Peter, what a gent he was. He was also was a great friend of Peter Wragg when they both played for York he stayed with the Wragg family before home games and I know what a high esteem Peter Wragg held him in

Lovely story, baldtobe. I can't recall ever seeing Peter play but I do remember my dad and uncle talking about his penalties!
