'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Bunch Of Fives.

Rotherham took 21 players to Grantham last night in their first open pre season friendly.

A stunning hat trick by Ryan Taylor eased the Millers to a 5-0 win.

The first game on 23 minutes when he headed home a cross from Sam Duncum who came on early after Richie Partridge went off with what looked like a groin injury.

The second came after excellent work between Gregor Robertson and Michael Keane before a cross was put in where Delroy Facey scored easily.

The third goal saw Taylor and Duncum linking well who set it up for Michael Keane to score and put the Millers 3-0, this was the Half Time score.

Just after the break it became 4-0 when Duncum had a fierce shot stopped and Taylor was on hand to score from close range.

The 5th and indeed the best of the lot came on 55 minutes when David Worrel went on a superb run he then laid it off to Taylor who completed his hatrick with ease.

With the clock ticking down Grantham were awarded a penalty as the Referee implied Cutler had committed a foul, but the keeper stood strong and made a fine save

All in all a good workout, but im sure as the season gets closer and Alan Knill finalises his team we will see a more fluent performance, having said that at this stage of pre seaon its all about getting match practice and match fitness.

When the season Kicks Off our full Match day package will swing into action and will include, Match Previews, Match Stats and of course Match reports.

ALL THE TALK HAS BEEN OF FACEY AND HOSKINS UP FRONT, BUT YOUNG TAYLOR SHOWED YESTERDAY THAT HE HAS MATURED AS A PLAYER, AND DESPITE IT BEING AGAINST WEAK OPPOSITION, HE SHOWED THAT HE COULD BE IN THE FRAME AT THE START OF THE SEASON.

I didn't go but it seems a decent run out for our new squad and 5 goals adds to the confidence, yes I know it was no opposition but 5 goals all the same.
