'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Scott 'there's a mentality issue here'

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott says that, as a team, they are not collectively fit enough or mentally strong enough - at the moment.

Scott, who took over the reigns just fourteen days ago, is yet to see his side win and told Les Payne of The Star, after Monday`s defeat, 'We`re miles off what we should be and my aim is to get a team together to ensure we can play at pace, with energy and be able to do that for 90-95 minutes.

'We have some good players with good ability individually but collectively we are not good enough, collectively not fit enough and collectively not mentally strong enough. There are some good players here but everyone needs to graft and it`s easier to do that if you do it as a group of eleven rather than individuals.

'But I think there`s a mentality issue as well as a fitness issue and those things have to be addressed and cemented together very quickly into the team. I expect them to take on board what I`m asking them to do and come in every day looking to train at a game tempo and not just think that it`s easy-peasy and it`s a great living. You need to be consistent over forty-six games with energy, commitment, organisation, desire, passion and teamwork and then have good enough players to add onto all that to make you a good team.`
