Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott says he is pretty certain on what he wants to do next season.
Speaking to MillersPlayer earlier today, Scott said, 'I'm looking at the players we've got and who's out of contract and who isn't and where we need to strengthen, which is a daily thing I'm re-assessing. I'm trying to nail down what I want to do and it's important that we get that plan in order very quickly because there are a lot of players out of contract and there's a lot that needs to be done.
'It's not just the game, but there are the training sessions as well and every opportunity is a chance to impress and no decision is going to be made on any player until the 9th May, when I will be speaking to every player including the loan players. No one will get preferential treatment and if they've got something else to I will be speaking to them anyway because it's based on whether I want them or not.
'We need a strong squad with strength in depth and also for cover rather than going out and getting people on loan when we don't need to and I've got a list of players available from the agents and maybe we can take both loans and players on a permanent basis. But, it's important that we don't jump the gun and get the first name that comes up but that we assess it right and that it works within the squad that we've got.
'I want a firm base of maybe eighteen or twenty players who can be first team players and not just people who can be playing in the reserves. They've got to be capable of playing League Two football.'
Talking about getting young loan players in next season, Scott said, 'I've got some good contacts at some good clubs and clearly Rotherham is in a good area in terms of access with the motorways and we can attract players from bigger clubs because they want to come and watch their young players playing and it's easier if it's in a good location. So, we will be trying to use that to our advantage. But firstly, it's important that we get a stable group of Rotherham United players on a permanent basis and have the other to just fill in the gaps and be the difference between nearly getting there and doing it.'
