RUFC - Latest news on new stadium

Rotherham United look set to have the next stage of the proposals for the new ground accepted by town planners tomorrow at a meeting of the Rotherham Borough Council Planning Board.

The next stage is the flood-proofing proposals which means the former Guest and Chrimes site would be raised by an average of seven feet. The material used for this project will come from Maltby Colliery and Tata Steel at Parkgate and will be taken to the site over a nine week period.

A spokesman for consultants, Signet Planning told the Rotherham Record, 'The proposal is for an engineering operation to raise the land levels on a site which comprises an important brown-field regeneration site close to the town centre. It will deliver both the next phase of the Flood Alleviation Scheme to this part of the borough and the new Rotherham Community Stadium and this development will result in principally beneficial impacts in respect of flood risk and drainage considerations. It will assure safety of any future users and visitors to the ensuing development on the site.'

The new stadium, yet to be named, will hopefully be ready for the start of the 2012/13 football stadium.
