RUFC - Fenton 'we have massively underachieved'

Rotherham United defender, Nick Fenton is at a loss to explain what has happened to the Millers since the New Year.

Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser, the former Manchester City trainee said, 'If you look at the form table for the second part of the season we would probably have been in the bottom two.

'We were flying at one point. We beat Port Vale five-nil on New Year`s Day and then went to Macclesfield on the Monday and won two-nil. Then, something happened and I don`t know what because we were doing the same things but the results started going backwards.

'It`s our fault, of course it is, but we haven`t been that bad. The ball hasn`t fallen for us and things have gone against us. But, at the end of the day, it`s up to us to put that right and we haven`t. We have massively underachieved and when you look at sides that are going up this year we have a squad as good, if not better, than most of them and we should be, at the very least, in the play-offs. The players have let the club down.

'It`s another season in League Two which is disappointing, but, I`m sure, there will be another push next year. The fans are going to be upset and I can understand that, but there`s no point looking back.`

Nick is one of the eleven players out of contact at the end of the season and he says he wants to stay. 'The gaffer has a lot of players out of contract and he`s going to have to sort out what he wants to do and build a side for next year. I`ve made my intentions clear and I want to stay on and play for this manager. But, whether the club want to keep me, I don`t know because they`ve not been on to me yet.`
