'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Scott to get tough with travelling players

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott is worried about the recent spate of injuries in the Millers ranks.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, he said, 'There is an issue with injuries at the football club and why they are injured. Certainly, towards the end of the season fatigue sets in and we have a lot of lads who travel long distances and they are sat a long time in cars which isn't conducive to playing football or training. It's an issue that I will be addressing. If they are going to be committed to Rotherham United Football Club then they have to live nearer. If not, they aren't going to be any use and I'm not going to be paying their wages for them to be sat on the touchline being injured when it's down to their inability to prepare themselves properly.

'Some of the distances the lads are travelling and the amount of time they are spending in the car is outrageous and wouldn't be tolerated in any business let along one where you have to perform physically. If I'm being honest, I did it for a bit and realised I couldn't and, as a consequence of that my body suffered. I soon realised I wasn't able to play to my full potential and realised it wasn't the thing for me.

'It's understandable with families and stuff but it's a job that they are getting well paid for and there should be some degree of sensible thought about where they live, how far they travel and what they are doing to their bodies.'

Ed Note - Well said Andy, I can't agree more
