RUFC - Permission granted to raise ground levels

Rotherham United`s proposed move to their new stadium is a step nearer this week, after the Rotherham Borough Council Planning Board approved proposals to raise the ground level.

The Millers are due to move into the new stadium, at the old Guest and Crimes Foundry site at the start of the 2012/13 season and work to raise the ground level up to ten feet, to reduce flood risk, is expected to start later this month.

Speaking to The Advertiser, Chairman, Tony Stewart, said, 'I`m expected at the prospect of work starting and once the infill work is complete, erection of the framework of the stadium itself will begin in July.`

There have been rumblings lately around the town and fans that there may be problems with funding the new ground but Mr. Stewart said, 'Some of the funding is subject to grants and these things take time. But they are coming into place as we had planned and everything is looking good.`
