RUFC - Manager hopes youngster accepts deal

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott is hoping that youngster, Ollie Banks, who made his debut this afternoon and scored, will sign the contract that the club's offered him.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield, Scott said, 'We`ve offered Ollie a deal but he`s not signed it as yet but he`s still got a lot to learn. We wanted to see if he was ready and we chucked him on and he scored with his first touch! It`s a dream debut and I`m delighted for him and if he works hard through the close season and comes back then he`ll give himself a chance. We`re hopeful that he`s going to stay with us and I`d like to think that he recognises in me as a manager that if you`re good enough it doesn`t matter how old you are.

'To score on his debut here for a young lad is a great experience and we`re a club that if you are good enough then you`ll be playing in the side, no matter whether you are eighteen or thirty-eight. I hope he recognises that rather than wanting to go to a bigger club just to maybe be amongst the group of ones that never break through.`
