'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Ollie delighted with his debut

Rotherham United's Ollie Banks had a Roy of the Rovers debut on Saturday, coming off the bench on seventy-seven minutes and scoring his first senior goal three minutes later.

Speaking to MillersPlayer the young lad said it was a 'bit of a dream.'

'I was a bit nervous when I came on,' he admitted, 'but once I got over that first corner than came over I was alright. When I scored I didn't really know what to do but I'm happy!

'When I heard I was going to be a sub I thought there was a chance I might get on but as it got closer I didn't know but it was obviously good to come on and I thought we played well as a team and deserved the win.

Talking about the goal, Ollie said, 'I saw the 'keeper coming out and there was only one place I could put it and I slotted it in.'

Asked if there was anyone who had helped him whilst he'd been at the club, straight away, Ollie said, 'Andy Liddell. He's always having a word with me and giving me advice here and there. He's good to have about and he's helped me out a lot this year.'

He said it had been a bit difficult having three managers this season saying, 'You have to impress and you impress one and then another one comes in and you have to start all over again. But I think I've impressed Andy Scott today!

'Hopefully I'll be signing the new deal that's been offered and kick on next season and make a few more appearances.'

For those that don't know, Ollie is the son of former Miller Ian Banks which, if my family tree skills are working makes him the nephew of Nicky Law snr and the cousin of Nicky Law jnr! Ian is currently the Manager of Eccleshill United, who finished tenth in the KoolSport Northern Counties East League One this season.
