RUFC - Players offered 'incentive' contracts

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott is expecting to hang onto Nicky Law and Ryan Taylor despite interest from other clubs for the pair.

Because the pair are both under twenty-four years of age, they have time on their sides to think about their future and Scott told MillersPlayer, 'We will do all we can to keep them here.

'There`s been a lot of interest in both players and being in League Two it`s not the greatest place for players who want to go and improve their careers to be. But, I am trying to persuade them that this is the best place for them to get into League One and forge a career. Obviously they`ve got representatives and agents and sometimes they will get more money elsewhere and I can`t blame them for looking elsewhere. But, hopefully, they will stay here.

'The deals we`ve offered them both put them at the top end of our wage scale and that represents how important they are to us and it also fits in with the financial regulations that you have to keep to in League Two. So for the two young lads to be offered contracts like they have from Rotherham is certainly a statement of our intent and, within the contracts there is an incentive to earn more money and that`s what I want to do. I want to give players incentive based contracts which makes things a little bit more desirable and people will want to play games to win.`
