'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Scott on the pre-season friendlies

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott has told MillersPlayer that he doesn`t want to play too many pre-season friendlies.

Already arranged are games with Grimsby Town, Sheffield Wednesday, Stocksbridge, Scunthorpe and Parkgate - the Owls and Scunthorpe games being midweek fixtures at Don Valley.

'The Stocksbridge and Parkgate games will be for players who have had injuries and haven`t played too much football pre-season or if they come in late and need another game under their belt. It will also be a chance for me to look at youth team players,` Scott said.

'During the actual pre-season itself we are going to be doing a lot of eleven v eleven and game based work so the games we have arranged are excellent games. The four games will be a good test for us with each team representing a different challenge for us although you don`t really read too much into them.

'We start of at Grimsby and then the Sheffield Wednesday game is a good game for us where we will get a good crowd. Then we`ve got Scunthorpe on the 27th July and we are looking to arrange a good fixture for the 30th.

'From the day we come back for pre-season training on the 29th June we`ve got something pencilled in for every hour of every day through to the Saturday morning of the first game of the season. I`ve got a pre-season programme mapped out that I`ve had for the last three years and it`s been very, very effective. We just tweak it every year and move things around round the games so that the players get the maximum out of it.

'We`re hoping to take the lads away for a few days because we are looking to bring in a lot of players I think it`s important that we have that bonding and team spirit.`
