'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - 'Keeper pens new two year contract

Rotherham United goalkeeper, Jamie Annerson is the first of the six players offered new contracts to sign on the dotted line.

The twenty-two year old has, subject to FA and Football League ratifications, signed a two year deal with the Millers and told MillersPlayer that he was 'delighted.'

Jamie joined the Millers firstly as cover in 2008 from Sheffield United but eventually on a free in the following summer.

Jamie got his chance in the first team towards the end of last season's campaign and said, 'I didn't want the season to end and hopefully I can hit the ground running when we return for pre-season and I can crack on and push for that number one spot next year.

'Getting a run in the team has given me a big confidence boost and I've shown a lot of people what I'm capable of. As a goalkeeper the more games you play the more your confidence grows and I think I showed that. Personally, I know I've always been capable but game by game my confidence grew and I improved.

'I don't think there was ever any doubt in my mind that I wanted to stay here because the club have stuck by me and offered me two years, which, on a personal note, is really pleasing.'

Asked what Manager, Andy Scott had said to him, Jamie said, 'He said he'd been impressed with me since he'd come in and he thinks he can improve me and how he works with me next year will, hopefully, take me to another level. I've enjoyed working with him. All managers have similar ethics and since he's come in the organisation has been really professional and I'm looking forward to working with him next year.

'I think it's going to be a tough pre-season but we've all got to do it. You've got to enjoy working hard and it will pay dividends for when the first game of the season comes along'
