'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Tongey on his new deal

Rotherham United defender, Dale Tonge is pleased to have got his contract sorted out saying that it`s a bit of security.

Speaking to MillersPlayer the former Barnsley player said, 'It`s great to be offered a new deal. I had fifteen months out with injuries but it`s all sorted now and towards the end of the season I thought I was one of the more consistent performers.`

Having signed another two year deal this will make Dale one of the clubs longest serving players and he said, 'Me, Danny (Harrison) and Woggy (Andy Warrington) will be the longest servers here which is like 'wow!` but it`s a good club and I`m a local lad so it`s a good place to be. The club is moving forward and it`s exciting times with a new manager who is enthusiastic and energetic and a new stadium on the way.

'Andy Scott is very thorough and wants to get the lads learning, wants to get on the training pitch and he`s got his certain way of playing which he instils into you. He`s on the training pitch every day and, as a player, you want your manager to be there to help you and to learn from every day.`

'I`m looking forward to pre-season because it will be my first one for two years.`

Asked what he would be doing with his three weeks off Dale said that he was going away on holiday and would be working in a heated environment doing running abroad.
