'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Scott on his new Assistant Manager

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott appointed Darren Patterson as his assistant yesterday and said that he will be 'a big asset.`

Speaking to MillersPlayer about the appointment, Scott said, 'I played with Darren at Oxford where he became Youth team coach then assistant to Jim Smith before taking over as the manager for a year. Things didn`t quite work out for him there and he went to Bristol Rovers as Youth team coach and then as assistant to Paul Trollope. He`s very experienced and a very good coach and he`s played at the highest level with Northern Ireland.

'When he was out of work he worked for me at Brentford and he knows his stuff, watches a lot of games knows his players and is very enthusiastic and is someone I can trust. He wants to work hard on the training ground and is committed to the cause. He doesn`t suffer fools and is good with the players.

'I`m a young manager, thirty-nine this year, and we understand what players are about. He`s a tough lad and has played with some good players and under some good managers and has learnt some good things. But he likes a laugh and we will be a happy group if we all work as hard as we can.`
