RUFC - Carling Cup draw this week

Rotherham United will find out who they play in the first round of the Carling Cup on Thursday and, as usual, the draw for the first round is split into North and South and then seeded depending on where the club's finished in the league at the end of last season.

I've been trying to work out who the Millers could get in the Northern draw but, please don't take this as gospel because I have been known to be wrong!

I think, the seeded teams, that are teams in the Championship and those who finished in the top half of League One last season, will be -
Barnsley
Blackpool
Burnley
Carlisle United
Coventry City
Derby County
Doncaster Rovers
Huddersfield Town
Hull City
Leeds United
Leicester City
Middlesbrough
Nottingham Forest
Peterborough United
Preston North End
Rochdale
Scunthorpe United
Sheffield United

This makes the unseeded sides -
Accrington Stanley
Bradford City
Burton Albion
Bury
Chesterfield
Crewe Alexandra
Hartlepool United
Macclesfield Town
Morecambe
Northampton Town
Notts County
Oldham Athletic
Port Vale
Rotherham United
Sheffield Wednesday
Shrewsbury Town
Tranmere Rovers
Walsall

I also think that Blackpool and Birmingham have been given a bye.

It could make it interesting with a couple of same city derbies on the cards if the Owls get drawn with the Blades and both Nottingham sides get picked to play each other.

Last season we travelled to Peterborough for our first, and only, game of the competition and we will soon know who we have got this year. Carlisle, I believe is the farthest we could have to travel (eeekkk!) while a short easy trip to Bramall Lane could be on the cards.

So, come on into Vital Rotherham and tell us who you'd like our first opponents to be.

Me - I'm hoping for our first game to be at Don Valley, then I don't care who we draw!
