'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Chairman 'things are starting to buzz'

Rotherham United Chairman, Tony Stewart looked as pleased as punch when he went down to the site which is to host the Millers' new stadium and said, 'Things are starting to buzz.'

Speaking to MillersPlayer at the site yesterday, Mr Stewart said, 'In just a few days we've seen what a difference has been made to this site.

'I'm told that, six weeks for now, the raising of the ground, up to two metres will be done which is how fast things are taking place. I mean, we've been plotting this for two years and GMI, who built the Council Offices, hit no snags and got them done on time and I know the council are very happy with what they've done. And these are the same people who are going to be building the stadium and six weeks from now, when the land levels are in, it will really start to get exciting because that's when the erection of the stadium will commence. We will see, maybe in weeks, big differences.

'Everything`s in place regarding the money. We had alternatives but business is all about the best deal and that's what the Council put together.'

Asked about the original Guest and Chrimes building that is on the site and cannot be knocked down, Mr Stewart said, 'The people who we have employed on the planning side are talking to English Heritage but it is a delicate situation. But they are the experts and so we'll leave it to them and they will come up with a policy which we will carry out.'

With Mr Stewart was Director, Richard Stewart who said, 'It's been a long process but today we can see the start of it. It's exciting times.'
