RUFC - Annerson to fight to be number one

Rotherham United are in the good, though, for them, unusual position, of having probably the best two goalkeepers in League Two next season.

Andy Warrington joined the Millers in May 2007 and never looked like being anything but 'number one` from the first day. Jamie Annerson joined the Millers, after being released by Sheffield United, in May 2009 and has proved himself an able deputy. In fact, at the end of last season he was keeping Warrington out of the team.

Jamie is contracted to Rotherham until 2013 and told Dom Howson of The Star that he intends to fight to be number one.

'Pre-season will be tough but I have to work as hard as I can every day because this has to be the best pre-season of my life. When the games come along I have to make sure I`m calm and perform well in the friendlies,` the twenty-three year old said.

'It was a big confidence booster for me when the manager played me, even after Andy had recovered from injury and I was delighted with the six games I had at the end of last season. In fact, I didn`t want the season to end.

'I`ve always been confident in my ability and I know I am ready to be playing and I know I am ready to be playing week in and week out and when the chance came along I showed that I could handle it. The majority of the season was really frustrating for me again. I had to be patient because Andy was in fine form so I didn`t get many opportunities to show what I can do and I just concentrated on training hard and doing well in the reserve games.

'I`m looking forward to getting back and working hard in pre-season but I can only do my best and the rest is down to who the manager picks.`

With cup/trophy games, Jamie played thirteen games last season of which the Millers won four and drew five.
