RUFC - Millers back at work - and looking good

Rotherham United returned to training today after their summer break with Manager, Andy Scott saying 'everyone is looking alright.' Because there is still some work to be done on the pitches at the training ground, the squad trained at Don Valley today using the track to do some fitness testing on.

Speaking to MillersPlayer after the first session, Scott said, 'We've done some fitness testing today and sorted out the kit and general day to day stuff that everyone does when they come back.

'Everyone is looking alright and we'll assess to fitness data when we've got it all together and then we can look at how we move ahead in the next few days. When we can use all the data we've got we'll be gearing the training around that and then make it more specific to individuals. They'll be given things like strengthening programmes and other programmes that will give us the best chance to move forward.

'We'll be getting the balls out soon to get a feel of them but at the moment it's generally based on how fit they are and what level they can get to but everything looks promising so far.'

Asked, on MillersPlayer what sort of fitness testing there was Scott said, 'We' got several testing facilities, one of them being the yo-yo test which I've been doing at pre-season for the last three years and which works very well and gets us to a level of fitness that is very high.'

Speaking about the training ground at Roundwood, where there has been some work going on over the summer to make a gym and extra office space, Scott said, 'I want the training ground to be a facility where we are there from first thing in the morning until last thing at night. Now we've got my office down there and all the staff down there and we will be able to have meetings and player meetings and work from there. The Chairman has been fantastic organising the facilities. The gym is a double-sized port-a-cabin which has been made specific to our needs with all new gym equipment going in there and it will be used a lot. It's a big thing for us to have that there for the youth team as well as the pro's. There's working on-going on the pitches and there will be work done on the changing rooms as well. We've worked closely with Roundwood and Parkgate so we can produce something that will be good to come to training to every day.'
