RUFC - Schofield 'over the moon'

Rotherham United`s new signing, Danny Schofield says he is 'over the moon` at becoming a Miller.

Speaking to MillersPlayer, the thirty-one year old former Millwall player said, 'I spoke to the gaffer about five or six days ago and the decision was really within that time. I`m over the moon and can`t wait to get started.`

Before playing for Millwall, Danny played for Yeovil and Huddersfield Town and he seemed pleased to be moving 'up North` again saying, 'It was always in the plan to get back home and Rotherham`s close to home and an ideal club.

'When I spoke to the gaffer I saw a lot of potential here and, I don`t really like to say this, but it is a big club for League Two and one that I`m sure is going in the right direction. Another factor for me coming is the new stadium that`s being built and everything is being geared towards getting promoted as soon as possible.`

After missing the first day of pre-season training, yesterday, Danny said he was looking forward to getting started tomorrow, 'I`ve always looked forward to pre-season - I`m always ready to get back after a week off never mind a few months! I always keep myself fit over the summer and I`m sure I can hit the ground running.`

Asked where he thought he would play, he said, 'The majority of my career I`ve always played on the left-midfield although I did start as a striker with Huddersfield but I feel I can play in numerous positions.`

While with Yeovil Danny knew Paul Warne and he said, 'I met Warney as soon as I moved there and he`s a top bloke and our families are friends so we`ve spent a bit of time together. After the gaffer 'phoned Warney 'phoned me and said that Rotherham would be interested and it would be a good club for me. It`s good to know someone here too.`

Asked about his expectations, Danny said, 'The gaffer says promotion in the goal and not via the play-offs, we`re going to go up automatic and to do that and move into a new stadium would be perfect. I`m sure with the players and coaching staff we`ve got, we can achieve that.`
