'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - On this day in the past....

A quick look back over the last few years with what was happening to the Millers on 2nd July

2 July 2010

It was on this day last year that we found out that Millers fan, Howard Webb, could possibly be the Referee in charge of the World Cup Final.

Also, on this day, Ronnie Moore confirmed his interest in Welsh International Mark Bradley but he also said he faced stiff competition from Burton Albion and Shrewsbury.

2 July 2009

Two years ago the Millers took two trialists on - Stoke City`s Marc Grocott and former Miller, Paul Warne. Manager, Mark Robins, said of Warney, 'I know he`s fit because he did most of my running outside the penalty area.`

Fans were told that there were to be free buses from Rotherham to Don Valley.

Chairman, Tony Stewart, said that there would be more money available for Manager, Mark Robins to buy more players with Mansfield`s Michael Boulding seemingly top of the list.

2 July 2007

Four years ago there were grave concerns over the training facilities at Hooton Lodge.
The training ground had been badly affected by some terrible weather and with the players due back for training it wasn`t thought that the pitches would be dried out in time.

2 July 2006

Vital Rotherham were asking the question 'Who do you feel let England down in the World Cup`?
Some of the points raised were
1.Was Sven`s tactics all wrong?
2. Only four strikers, was that a mistake?
3. Should we have taken Owen, knowing he was carrying an injury?
4. Was Wayne Rooney`s sending off our downfall?
5. Did we just not get into the tournament?
6. Too many key players had too many off days?

Some of the quotes we got back were - Same old story, same old years of hurt
The positive spin is that Sven is now out
Too many players did not perform - for instance Gerrard, Lampard and Beckham
Lampard thought he was playing rugby with most of his kicking through the world cup. We should never have taken Walcott, with players like Bent and Defoe fit. I think it's time to draw a line under this world cup. Roll on the Euros!

Meanwhile, back to the Millers and new boy, Richie Partridge, said, he was happy to be at Millmoor. He said, 'It's been a summer when I've had a couple of options but after speaking to the manager and the owners, this club seems to be the right one for me. This club is on the up.` (Perhaps someone had forgotten to mention the minus ten points we were starting on?!)
