Rotherham United have had a few away games moved from Saturday afternoon games to Friday night games, which, personally, isn't the best thing for me and I know a few other fans have had a grumble about them too.
But, it seems it's not always the 'away' team who have initiated the change as Chief Operating Officer, Paul Douglas explained on MillersPlayer today.
'The Wimbledon game was actually changed at our request,' said Mr Douglas. 'I felt that because we are playing Bank Holiday Monday, playing Friday would give an extra day of rest for the players. And, it wouldn't hurt their revenues because Good Friday is traditionally a good football day and Wimbledon were happy to change.'
Asked about the changes to the other three games from Saturday to Friday, Mr Douglas carried on, 'In the case of the Southend game it's just a traditional Friday night venue and I assume it's to try and reduce the competition with the London teams.
'Cheltenham is where we would have travelled up on New Years Eve and we thought that was asking a lot of our supporters, so bringing it forward a day allows everyone to enjoy the match and have a nice New Years Eve.
'I believe with Bristol Rovers it clashes with a Bristol City game when both teams have peculiarly been drawn to play at home on the same weekend and they felt that it would help their gate if they were able to bring the match forward a day and we were happy to oblige.'
Asked if Rotherham United would ever consider moving their Saturday games to Friday, Mr Douglas said, 'I think it's something we would consider although it's not something we would consider without consulting our supporters. But we would consider if and when it clashes with England games but I think the majority of our supporters like the idea of waking up on a Saturday morning with a game to look forward to.'
