RUFC - A Look Back at ......18th July

Let's have a quick look back on this day over the last few years and see what the Millers were up to ...

18th July 2010
This time last year Paul Warne declared himself fully fit, after spending a lot of the previous season on the treatment table. He said that his overall fitness was impressive and he had done well in the 400m runs. He was looking forward to playing some part in the Millers push for promotion in the coming season.

18th July 2009
It was on this day two years ago that the Millers played Walsall in a friendly at Don Valley. Tom Pope got a consolation goal for the Millers who lost 2-1.

Paul Warne, who signed a one year deal the day before for his second spell with the Millers, started the game and he said he felt like he`d never been away. Millers Manager, Mark Robins, said he was delighted to have captured the experienced player.
Robins certainly wasn`t happy with the pitch at Don Valley, saying after the defeat to Walsall, ''I was assured the pitch was in good condition but it certainly wasn't and I need to know what is going to be done about it.`

It was announced on this day that striker, Drewe Broughton, would be a doubt for the start of the season after breaking a toe in a pre-season friendly with Mansfield.

18th July 2008
On this day in 2008 the Millers were waiting for the Football League to tell them if they would start on minus points in August after going into administration. Chairman, Tony Stewart said, ''The facts are that we didn't get our CVA through in time for last week's expiry date. 'This means we are now waiting for news from the Football League. But, I have to remain optimistic.`

Meanwhile the Millers had a behind-closed-doors game against York City and came away with a three-nil win with goals from Mark Burchill, Ryan Taylor and trialist, Drew Broughton. Mark Robins said it was a good start to the pre-season and had been a good work out.
Chairman and Manager got together on this day asking the fans to get down to Don Valley for the friendly against Derby County tomorrow.

18th July 2007
Millers latest signing, Graham Coughlan, spoke after the team photo shoot saying, 'I`m here to help the club win the league.`
Manager, Mark Robins, said he was pleased that there would be competition for most positions in the coming season.

18th July 2006
Rotherham Manager, Alan Knill, had a former Chelsea trainee in as a trialist. Alexis Nicolas, who had also played for Brighton and Hove Albion, would play in the friendly against Sunderland the next day.
