RUFC - Scott thinks the squad is looking good

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott is pleased with the way the first pre-season game went.

Speaking to MillersPlayer after the three-one win over Grimsby on Saturday, Scott said, 'The main thing was to get everyone a bit of time under their belts on the pitch and it was a good competitive game and a good test and we've proved we've brought some good players in. In fact, the only really negative is that Jason Taylor got a knock to his head and has had to have three stitches so had to come off. But he'll be fine and it won't really damage his good looks.

'We created a few chances and Lewis (Grabban) took his goal very well. I thought in the second half we took a few liberties which I wasn't too happy about but I'd rather see them now and get them ironed out and make the lads aware of what's required and what's not.

'Certainly, when we move the ball well, properly and quickly, we showed that we were more than capable of hurting teams. So far it's been excellent and the fitness has been very good. We had two players who played ninety minutes and Danny Harrison played for seventy-five and there were some good performances out there. The main thing is to get through these without any injuries and I was pleased although a bit disappointed that we conceded a goal and set-pieces wise we weren't very good but I'll settle for that after a first game. But, what I wanted to do was get players in early enough and be able to work with them throughout the pre-season and get them fit enough to play in these games and then go to Portugal and work in the areas we need to work on.'

Asked about whether he still feels he needs to strengthen the squad, Scott replied, 'The games will be coming thick and fast in August and we need to have a squad that is capable of coping with that I think, at this stage of the season, the core of what we've got is excellent but we are probably a couple short so we are still looking. If the right players come along you obviously want to get them in as soon as possible but if we get some after the seasons started then that's the way it is.'
