'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Webb enjoyed Tuesday's game

Rotherham United fan and World Cup Referee, Howard Webb MBE, said it was a 'good experience' after refereeing the friendly game between the Millers and Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday evening at Don Valley.

Speaking to The Advertiser, the forty year old FIFA listed official said, 'It's always a pleasure to referee these friendlies because you don't get a chance during the regular season with the local sides.

'Everyone knows I'm a Rotherham fan and you just hope there is nothing controversial or that you deliberately go the other way with the decisions.'

After going two down the Millers did manage to pull one back, and Howard did admit that he hoped it would end up a draw. 'When we scored I looked over to the main stand to see where my lad, Jack was and I could see him dancing about in his Le Fondre shirt. David Prutton, the Wednesday player, asked me how long there was left and when I said two minutes he said, 'surely there is four or five left.' I just said, 'my lad's a Rotherham fan and he'll kill me if we blow up early with us pushing at two-one!'

Howard went on to say that he enjoyed the game and thought it was a fair result.
