'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Raynes apologises for performance

Rotherham United defender, Michael Raynes, who captained the Millers on Saturday against Barnet, says he was disappointed with his performance.

Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser, the twenty-three year old, who gave away a penalty in the two-all draw said, 'It was a frustrating game and I was disappointed with my performance which I`d like to apologise for.

'I`ll hold my hands up and say that it wasn`t a good day but we managed to nick a point, and, looking at the bigger picture, we`ve got ten points from four games. If someone had offered us that at the start of the season we`d have bitten their hands off.`

Michael, who joined the Millers from Scunthorpe at the beginning of the month says that if the squad can stay united then it should be a good year for the Millers. 'I know what it takes to get out of this league,` he said, 'and I can see a lot of signs that we are going in the right direction. In this division if you have a solid back four and a goal scorer then that`s half the battle.

'There`s competition for places here which is a good thing but I certainly don`t want to be sub and I know Troy (Brown) and Cress don`t. It`s a long season and the days when you play in forty-six games don`t really happen any more. Football is changing and the demands on the body are very high so we will need every single one of us.`
