RUFC - Scott on life after Alfie

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott reflected on life without striker, Adam Le Fondre who has signed a three year deal with Championship side Reading today.

Speaking after his side had beaten Gillingham three-nil, Scott said, 'It`s going to be very, very tough to replace, Alfie and we know that. But sometimes when the emphasis is on one player it takes the highlights off of everybody else.

'We`ve got some good players here and we know that. We`re not kidding ourselves, we aren`t the finished article and we know that we need to go out and replace Alf with someone who is going to be as effective in terms of goals and in terms of team work as well. And, that`s going to be difficult but that`s my job.

'It`s up to others to step up and show me that they deserve to be playing and I thought everyone did that today.

'I think we need to go out and get a player who can compliment the centre-forwards we have here. Alfie is a natural born goal scorer and to find them is very difficult but if we can get someone in who is close to that and help others score goals then, as a combined total, I believe we can do that. I`m working extremely hard to get the right player in but it`s a difficult time of year and everyone is after the same thing. We need to make sure that it all fits in financially with what we are doing and equally we need to push forward and try and keep the momentum that we`ve got already. Being top of the league does help you attract players but, until that person comes in, then we can look back on this performance as a terrific one.`
