'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Evans 'there is life after Alfie'

Rotherham United forward, Gareth Evans says that the Millers have to be prepared for life without Adam Le Fondre.

And, they certainly did that in the second half of Saturday`s game against Gillingham when they scored three goals to beat them - the last one coming from Evans himself.

Speaking to David Beddows of The Advertiser, the twenty-three year old said, 'Alfie was messaging me on Friday saying something might happen and, lo and behold, we went in on Saturday and he wasn`t around.

'But everyone knew it had been on the cards and we were in a position of thinking, if he goes, then it`s just one of those things. We`ve just got to keep going and we`ve got the quality in the squad to stay up there.

'Alfie has scored twenty plus goals for the last two or three seasons and I think he deserves everything that comes his way. As a team you just have to carry on and find the goals elsewhere. And, there was no better way than scoring three in the next game.

Speaking about Saturday`s win, the former Macclesfield and Bradford striker said, 'Gillingham set themselves up well and at half-time the gaffer told us to take the game to them more. And, we went out and did that.`

Gareth scored the third goal on Saturday after Danny Schofield had set up Marcus Marshall for a cross to the six foot Evans who blasted home the close range shot. Gareth, who had worked hard all game, was named in the NPower League Two Team of the Week.
