RUFC - Despite win, Scott unhappy with performance

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott said he thought his side 'got away' with the three points this afternoon at Don Valley against Dagenham and Redbridge.

Speaking to MillersPlayer after the three-one win this afternoon, Scott said, 'We had a thirty-five minute spell in the first half where we played for the first eight minutes and then didn't play for the next ten minutes and then they (Dagenham) got back in the game and then they did what we were asking them to do.

'When we were in charge we were causing them no end of problems then, in the second half they went and did the opposite of what I wanted them to do and that's why they put themselves under pressure. We didn't play well in the second half.

'Sometimes players think they've got to do something a little bit different to make them look better, but they haven't. I asked our wingers to get crosses in and I asked our centre-forwards to get on the end of crosses. I asked our midfield players to win second balls and make sure that they kept it in those areas and the full-backs to get into space if there was space in front of them. All of a sudden, everyone does their own thing and it all comes crumbling down because none of their team mates know exactly what they're going to be doing and then it becomes dis-jointed and it's hard to get a foothold in the game again.

'We'd have scored more goals in the second half if we'd done the right thing.

'Both our wide players in the first half contributed really very well then we started doing things differently and it's frustrating. It's not as if I'm asking them to do things they can't do, I'm asking them to do things they are good at and, as wide players if you've been told to get the ball and run at the full-back and get the crosses in and get on the back post from crosses from the other side, it's not that much of a problem and we showed when we do it then it works, when we don't do it, it doesn't.'
