RUFC - Newey disappointed with defensive errors

Join The Vital Debate

Rotherham United defender, Tom Newey told The Advertiser that it is disappointing that the defence are making the same errors over and over again.

Speaking about the loss to Port Vale last Saturday, the twenty-eight year old, who joined the Millers in the summer of 2010, said, 'A settled back four always helps but that`s no excuse for conceding sloppy goals like we did again on Saturday.

'Conrad (Logan) would have wanted to have done better with the first goal but we defended poorly from the free-kick for the second and we have to take responsibility for that.

'When you are making the same errors and conceding goals it makes it look like you`re not doing anything but I can assure you that we are working very hard on the training ground trying to put things right..

'We were on top for the first fifteen minutes of that game but then conceded two goals but I thought we finished the first half strongly and had chances without really creating anything. We started the second half well and had a goal disallowed, which was dubious, but kept going. Their 'keeper probably had more saves to make than ours but you can`t give anyone a two-goal lead and it`s individual errors that`s cost us.

'As a team we have to stand up and ask 'did we do enough to win` - and we didn`t. It`s something to look at but we take heart from the fact that we kept going on a hot day and a big pitch.`
