'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Scott's had enough of defensive lapses

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott said that it was 'getting beyond a joke` after seeing his team beaten one-nil by Burton Albion at Don Valley this afternoon.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the game, Scott said, 'Defensively we were all over the place again and every time they attacked it looked like they would score - and they hardly attacked. They had two shots on our goal and we lost the game.

'It took us until the second half to actually play with a bit of fire in our bellies. It was probably the most dominant second half you are going to get in this league but the first half we were dominated against defensively and that`s cost us again. I`ve had enough of it now and we`ve got to make serious changes to the back four. It doesn`t surprise you that people, who don`t want to do their jobs, are making the same mistakes over and over again and it`s not as if we don`t work on it. We do it every single day - every single day - and people still don`t want to or can`t do it so they won`t play.

'The second half we played with a little bit more aggression because I got into them. It makes me laugh because they were paid to put a shift in for ninety minutes and people come to watch them and we are giving other teams a head start. They put bodies on the line, they get themselves organised and they can defend properly but we can`t. I`d love to be a full-back and give it to a winger who just runs down the line and crosses it but for some reason we don`t seem to want to do that and that amazes and frustrates me because I don`t understand it. I`d love to have played at full back behind Evo (Gareth Evans) because he was excellent when he came on. He`s been unwell for several days this week and we didn`t think he`d be able to do the ninety minutes.

Asked about Burton`s goal that had more than a hint of offside about it, Scott said, 'I`m not interested in that. We`ve lost the game. There`s nothing we can do because the decision went that way and we don`t defend anything like properly at the moment.

'Attacking wise we didn`t get any luck today. We were dominant and we got plenty of crosses in and had plenty of chances. I`m pleased about the way we`ve gone forward but it means nothing because you have to keep clean sheets in this league to win games and get promoted and, at the moment, we don`t look like doing that.

'We`ve given ourselves mountains to climb because we can`t keep clean sheets, It doesn`t mean anything that we were the better side you`ve got to win games. The fans are frustrated with it and I`m equally as frustrated with it and I`m not accepting it.`
