'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Scott on the Reserves

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott didn`t have a very good weekend with his first team only playing for forty-five minutes of the game against Burton Albion and to say he was upset is a bit of an understatement.

And, it didn`t get a lot better for him on Monday afternoon when he went to see the Reserves play against Hartlepool at Roundwood where they were on the wrong end of a five-nil walloping.

Speaking about that Reserve game, Scott told MillersPlayer, 'The Reserves didn`t play to the level they should be playing, certainly in the first half. It`s amazing really given the fact that there are places up for grabs that they didn`t go and grab it with both hands which tells me a lot about players.

'We had a reasonably young side out but the pro`s that were playing should have had more effect on the game. It was difficult because Hartlepool had a strong side out and previously the youngsters have done pretty well and it`s tough to play reserve team football on a consistent basis. Hartlepool move the ball around well and we expected the pro`s to help the young kids out and recognise what needed to be done but they didn`t do that.

'Given the injuries that we`ve got we can`t play too many pro`s in the side. But we`d got plenty of experience on the pitch that can dominate the game and dictate what happens while showing people exactly what`s required of them. They didn`t do that which was disappointing. It`s something that needs to be looked at because it`s happening over and over again and we need players to recognise what`s going wrong on the pitch and deal with it because we can`t always do that from the sidelines. It`s obvious that, at this moment in time, the players here need to have to be instructed which is the way it goes at this level.`
