'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Scott post Bristol Rovers

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott said that what cost his side last night was going three-nil down inside twenty minutes and that he was distraught for the fans who had travelled to watch the game.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the defeat last night, he said, 'We said that the first goal would count, that it would get the crowd on their backs and that we had to make it difficult and we go three-nil down in twenty minutes. And that says it all doesn`t it. The first three goals are completely demoralising for us because of the way they`ve gone in and the fact that they didn`t even have to work until they were three-nil up which is the scary part of it.

'If you go one down you respond and have a go and yes, the sending off affected the game, but if you don`t start right you lose games. I feel for the fans who have travelled here today and there is no excuse for that performance and the way we defended again.

'Everyone can blame the sending off or the performance of the officials but we`ve given them three goals. They didn`t even pass it until they got three-nil up. Long ball for the first one and we didn`t go with the runner, stupid challenge for the second one and then the third one from a set-piece. It`s just amazing how, for the last few games, we`ve talked about the same thing and we`ve worked on the same thing and players aren`t doing what I`m asking them to do. And it`s baffling.

'We tried things to get back into the game and nothing worked and I think the fifth goal summed it up really.

'We knew what side they`d play, we knew they`d be physical up top. We had players who could get at them but didn`t do it enough and we had players who weren`t at the levels they were over the last few weeks. Defensively again we were struggled.

'You know, I don`t mind players missing first headers because you can`t win everyone when you`ve got lads the size of them up front but we`ve got to deal with the second ball. You`ve got to assume that you are going to lose every header but some of the decisions we were making were just incredible.

'It`s like a bullet through the heart at the moment.`
