'If It's Football, It's Vital'

RUFC - Scott 'don't want Monday-to-Friday players'

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott admitted that it`s worrying what is happening to the team.

Speaking after the loss last night to Radio Sheffield a frustrated Scott said, 'It`s worrying. To start as well as we did and then the same group of players suffer from this lack of confidence.

'But when players don`t carry out instructions you are going to lose.

'We`ve sat down today and watched a DVD of Bristol Rovers and pinpointed areas out to them. We aren`t asking them to be Maradona or Beckham or anyone like that, we are asking them to be hard working league two players and to do the simple things.

'If there`s a pass on you pass it. If you`re under pressure you clear it. If there`s a header you head it. If there`s a tackle there you tackle. If you shut someone down you shut down with intensity. You know, it`s not rocket science. It`s about working hard as a group.

'We`re shutting down the front players and our wide players are getting close to the midfield players and you turn round and our back four are thirty yards behind them thinking it`s going to come forward. And it`s the same players making the same decisions over and over again.

'We work on it all week in training and it looks great. It comes to a game and it all goes to pot again. The manner of the way we conceded the goals today in concerning and I wonder if it hurts the players as much because it`s painful, very, very painful.

'I`m not going to try and cover up for inefficiencies and inadequacies. When things are going well there`s a great atmosphere here but I`m not interested in that. We work hard in training and we will continue to do that.

'I feel let down. Not by the whole group but by individuals. Whether it`s confidence, lack of game knowledge or lack of ability to take in information I don`t know. We aren`t playing as a group of eleven. We`re playing as individuals and it`s not working. And I`ve got to find an answer quickly because we can`t keep having the quality and ability that we`ve got and losing games like we are.

'You`re standing there and trying to dictate what to do and you`re getting a response from a few but the others aren`t doing what we`re asking them to do. The answer isn`t to keep changing players round. I`m not bringing any more players in.

'We`ve shown that we are good enough to do it. But there`s doing it and doing it in adversity when things are going against you and showing that you`re a man. Some of these players are earning good money and they should be ashamed of the fact that they don`t work as hard in the games as they do in training. There`s plenty of Monday-to-Friday players all over the country in every football club but I don`t want them in mine.'
