RUFC - Evans believes Millers can still go up

Join The Vital Debate
Rotherham United`s Gareth Evans says that he didn`t sign for the Millers to be in the bottom half of the table.

Thoroughly believing that the recent results have just been a blip, the former Macclesfield Town striker, who signed for the Millers this summer from Bradford City, told David Beddows of The Advertiser, 'The manager sold this club to me and I saw this as a club that was going up with this manager.

'There`s plenty of ambition here and I firmly believe we can turn this around and get in the top half, the play-offs and ultimately go up. But we need to be challenging and to start doing the basics right. Until we do that then we`re not going to get anything.

'The fans have been fantastic and to see them there at Bristol Rovers was very good. They`ve got behind us and we need to start paying them back with results on the pitch. Until we do that then we`re not going to be happy.

'It`s not just one person individually who is making mistakes. It`s as a team and we are all in it together and we are trying to improve that by sticking together. It`s very disappointing and we are going to have to work extra hard to turn this around.`

Speaking about the game with Shrewsbury Town, who are flying high in fifth place in the league, the twenty-three year old said, 'You often find that teams play well against the better sides. They tend to up their game and hopefully that`s what we can do and get something out of the game then turn this run around. It`s getting everyone down and it can`t carry on.`
