RUFC - Scott 'character of players terrific'

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott had difficulty catching his breath after the Millers came back from three-nil down to get a three-three draw.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after his team engineered one of the best come backs in many-a-year, Scott said, 'In the first half we knew they were going to launch balls at us, play three up and be physical and we didn`t cope with it again. We played too high, were chasing things and didn`t cover round. And we didn`t get the rub of the green.

'In the second half we got the line right and got our wide players tucking in a little more in better areas so we can get on the ball. Second half there was only one team who were going to win and as soon as we got the second we knew we were going to be in to it. Jaybo (Jason Taylor) had a fantastic chance towards the end when he`s gone through and they got a good block in. The character of the fellow`s was terrific and to come back from three down to get a point was fantastic.

'The disappointing thing is that we`re having to drive what goes on at half-time. Teams are just basically pumping the ball into us and it`s costing us although in the second half they did the same and we dealt with it comfortably and they didn`t have an answer. We had a lot of the ball and crosses into the box and we were much the better side.

'The goal we scored gave us a lift but it took us thirty-five minutes to get that lift. Three-nil down to a team that are fourth in the league, we were the better side which we proved in the second half. There were questions asked at half-time and, in fairness to them, they`ve answered them. But we`ve got to play with that intensity and that fire from the off and that`s what we`ve got to get into their heads.

'We`ve got players who can change games. Schoey (Danny Schofield) who can get on the ball and Tongey (Dale Tonge) was excellent and Gareth Evans was outstanding again. Our front players are good players but defensively we are having to score two, three and four goals just to win games which we can`t always do. As a group, defensively, we`ve got to do better.

'We lost the battle in midfield for the first half-hour. We got closer in the second half and dominated and their three never affected our two. We won headers aggressively and we won challenges and balls that were dropping we were first too and causing them problems.

'Once the penny drops we`ve got half a chance. We`ve drawn the last two and we`ve only really played for forty-five minutes each game. If we start the game properly we win them. Looking at the second half today we can take a lot of confidence and a lot of positives out of it but we have to learn from the first half.`
