RUFC- Miller Manager Praises Defending
Rotherham United had yet another central-defensive partnership this afternoon against Aldershot, in Guy Branston, who is on loan from Bradford City, and Jason Taylor.
With Ryan Cresswell and Michael Raynes out injured and Johnny Mullins on the bench, Scott is fast running out of central-defenders.
Speaking to MillersPlayer after today's win, Scott said, 'Once I`d seen Hylton and Rankine on Tuesday night, who are two very powerful centre-forwards who ask questions of you physically,
'John Mullins has been in the side, and we put him in too early because we had to and kept him in because we had to, and with Guy missing next week, we didn`t really want him playing today. He`s worked really hard for six months to get back playing and I don`t think people realise the physical and mental fatigue you feel when you come back. The adrenalin lasts for two or three games but after that you`re running on empty and he`s looked a little bit jaded in training which is through no fault of his own.
'He`s been exceptional and I just felt today was the right day to pull him out.
'Jaybo did well last week. He`s got that aggression and he wants to do the job that`s put in front of him and he did.
'Guy had a bit of steel today. The crowd love it when he goes and head it and you can see the anticipation when he goes in for a tackle and they`re thinking what`s going to happen! But he`s wholehearted.'
Talking about Luke Foster who made his first start at Don Valley today, Scott said, 'Again, he did well when he came on last week. And, if people do well but don`t get a chance they are going to wonder why they are doing what they`re doing and I`ve said that the door is never closed.
'We`ve had a lot of players who have been on the outside but have taken their chance when they`ve had it which is credit to them. Fozzy`s worked hard to get to where he has and he`s still plenty of work to do but looking at how their two midfield players played on Tuesday I just thought it was suited to that partnership.
'We wanted to get the ball out to our wider players and play Grabs (Lewis Grabban) out there for a bit more width and pace and when we did that I thought we looked dangerous.`
Talking about Danny Schofield being dropped to the bench, Scott said, 'I spoke to Danny on Thursday and said I didn`t think it was the game for him. He understood the situation and understood the reasons and that`s what makes him a good pro.`
Scott then had a word about Dale Tonge saying, 'I thought Tongey was excellent today. He`s played four games on the bounce now where he`s been excellent and that`s the consistency we`re looking for.
'The whole back four deserve a lot of credit today and the 'keeper as well. After the mistake last week there was a bit of pressure on him and he did well too.`
