RUFC - New 'Keeper Award

Rotherham United goalkeepers might be trying a bit harder after a new goalkeeping award has been announced.

The Precision Goalkeeping Golden Glove award will be presented each month to the Football League goalkeeper that has kept the most clean sheets in all competitions. There will also be an annual award in each of the Football League's divisions for the 'keeper who has kept the most clean sheets throughout the season.

Speaking to the Football League's Official Site, Nationals Sales Manager for Precision Goalkeeping, David Sanderson said, 'The Precision Training brand has had a fantastic relationship with The Football League as the Official Training aid suppliers for the past three years and our Precision Goalkeeping brand, that was only launched in 2010, is going from strength to strength.

'With so many goalkeepers using the Precision Goalkeeping gloves in The Football League we wanted to give something back to goalkeepers who are often forgotten about at awards time and this felt like the perfect fit.'

I like this idea, and as Mr Sanderson says, goalkeepers are often the forgotten men in the team when awards are given out. Saying that, Vital Rotherham awarded goalie, Andy Warrington, their season's Player of the Season award a couple of times in recent years.

Here's to our 'keepers winning the award!
