RUFC - Patterson pleased with win

Rotherham United Assistant Manager, Darren Patterson, said that the team were delighted with the three points picked up on Saturday.

Speaking to MillersPlayer yesterday at the training ground, Darren said, 'I thought we deserved it. We played very well during the game but it's been coming.

'OK, we've been on a bit of a bad run regarding results but performance wise we've definitely deserved a lot more wins.

'The key was scoring two and keeping a clean sheet, which is something we've been close to on a number of occasions but we just haven't managed to do it. I was pleased that we managed not to make any individual errors that have cost us. And now we've got our first clean sheet I hope we go on a run now with clean sheets because I believe we will score goals against anybody.

'Myself, Andy (Scott) and Big Dibbs (Andy Dibble) did have a big hug afterwards because you do take pride in keeping clean sheets and we do work very hard at it. Considering Guy (Branston) had just come in and Jason Taylor was asked to play there because we've had injuries to two key central defenders, it was very good for us.

'The lads deserve it because their work ethic and togetherness in training has been first class.'

Asked if the players who came in had a point to prove, Darren said, 'Yes and so they should have and they've got to keep making that point to stay in the team. We need competition in the squad and we need competition for the team because it makes it a healthy squad. The lads are treated properly and the ones who have been out of the squad have had a first class attitude.'
