RUFC - Scott Pleased to be able to play Branston

Join The Vital Debate

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott explained why there was a last minute U-Turn regarding defender Guy Branston being in the team today.

Bradford City had refused, on more than one occasion, to let Branston, who is on a three-month loan with the Millers, play in the FA Cup but Scott said, after the win over Barrow today, that they had kept on and on at City until they relented.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield, Scott said, 'We kept on at Phil (Parkinson) and argued with him and I've got to thank him for that and maybe buy him a drink next week.

'Guy's here for three months so, realistically, it wasn't going to be until the third, maybe fourth round that he would have gone back to Bradford. Guy spoke to Phil himself and said that he wanted to play and it was midway through training on Thursday that we got the nod that he could play.

'It was a big plus for us. He didn't have the greatest of games today but he's effective in what he did and we are delighted that he could play and it gives Mulls (Johnny Mullins) another week to get ready for next weeks game against Bradford.'

Asked if this happening makes it more or less certain that Guy will be joining the Millers on a more permanent deal, Scott said, 'There was no ulterior motive to this. I wanted him to play today because I wanted to get into the second round. Bradford and Guy know that we've got him here for three months to see how well he did and if he fits in and does well then great but it's not until January that we will know if there is an opportunity and it depends on how he performs between now and then and if financially we can do it and whether Bradford are willing. So, I'm just seeing it through until January now and the same with Jon Harley.'
