RUFC - Life after Alfie? Of course there is

Rotherham United signed striker, Lewis Grabban in the summer, probably with the knowledge that the previous seasons top scorer, Adam Le Fondre wouldn`t be around for long.

Well, as we all now know, Alfie went to Reading at the end of August and Lewis has taken his chances and has now replaced him as top scorer for the club. Having scored nine league goals so far, Lewis added two FA Cup goals to his tally on Saturday at Barrow.

Although preferring to play more centrally, the twenty-three year old has been playing more wide right for the Millers with Manager, Andy Scott saying that he knew, whichever position he played, he`d score goals for the Millers.

Speaking to Les Payne of The Star, Scott said that it was a difficult decision for Lewis to step down into League Two, 'He knew I believed in him and that he`d get a chance coming here.

'He`s never really had a break or a run of games and I felt if we could give him that, then we`d see him blossom,` Scott said. 'So, it`s no surprise that he`s showing what he can do. He just needed the opportunity and he`s taken it so far and looks a threat all the time.`

Having stretched their unbeaten run to five games Lewis himself told Radio Sheffield that he thinks the Millers are on the up.

'We're unbeaten in four or five,` the former Brentford player said, 'and we're going to try and carry that on for as long as possible. We had a bad spell and now we're on the rise again, so hopefully we can carry on and keep getting points and get back in the mix at the top of the league.`
