RUFC - Rams beat Millers

Rotherham United Reserves 0 Derby County Reserves 5

Rotherham United were beaten by a very strong Derby County side this afternoon as the Rams moved up to the top of Group Two of the Reserve Cup.

The game was twenty-five minutes old before the first chance when Paul Green, who has just come back from a long lay-off, took a free-kick that went just wide of Andy Warrington`s goal followed a few minutes later by another wide shot from David Martin. Seven minutes later, Martin easily passed Millers` trialists, David Elebert and then got the ball into the area, where Conor Doyle was waiting to put it into the back of the net. Just a minute later Martin again got passed Elebert and got the ball in and, although it was cleared, it fell to Alex Witham who lofted the ball over Warrington from twenty-five yards out to get the visitors second. It was Martin again who helped the Rams to their third just before half-time when his ball, once again, fell to Doyle who, when one-on-one with Warrington, slid the ball past him into the net.

Minutes into the second half the Millers had a corner which Tom Newey took and found the head of Luke Foster but the tall centre-half saw his shot cleared off the line and a few minutes later Alec Denton just failed to get on the end of a ball in from Warne. On the hour mark, the Rams made it four when Callum Ball curled in a free-kick from twenty-five yards out and then, in time added on at the end of the game, another free-kick from Ball went low into the bottom corner to make it a five-nil defeat for the Millers.
