Rotherham United Reserves lost five-nil at Parkgate yesterday afternoon to a very strong Derby County side that included former Miller, Shaun Barker and former Doncaster Rovers midfielder Paul Green.

After the game, Assistant Manager, Darren Patterson told MillersPlayer, 'The scoreline is a difficult one to take but we'll take a lot out of the attitude and application we showed today.

'We've played a first-class side with a first-class attitude. Sometimes when you come up against so many senior pro's and they made it very, very difficult for us and both myself, and the manager, complimented Nigel Clough on that.

'Against that sort of quality, I thought for twenty or thirty minutes we were genuinely in the game but they scored three very good goals in quick succession. I don't think we let our heads drop. We carried on and kept working and it's a great one for our youngsters to learn from. I thought the second half was better but we've been done with two set-plays which were pure quality so there's not a lot you can do.

'They are two leagues above us which showed today and sometimes you have to put your hands up and say we were beaten by a better side. But, there were some pluses for us. There was ninety minutes for Raynesy (Michael Raynes) and ninety minutes for Tom Newey. Chrissie Holroyd's back after his illness and managed to give sixty minutes so there were plenty of positives for us.'

Troy Brown and Ben Pringle have both come down will illness which made them miss the game yesterday
