RUFC - Scott 'we have to take our chances'

Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott said that his team were the better side today.

Speaking after the two-one loss at Don Valley to Crawley Town, Scott told Radio Sheffield, 'We played for eighty-five minutes today and the first five minutes of the second half cost us. For some reason we came out and didn`t do what we`d be doing in the first half. But, if you don`t take your chances then you will get punished.

'They had two or three chances and scored two goals and it was poor defending by us for both goals.

'We were causing them all sorts of problems in the first half and for eighty-five minutes of the game I was very, very happy.

'We had two excellent chances early on from Brett (Williams) and Grabbs (Lewis Grabban) and we looked a dominant force. But you`ve got to take those chances because it`s all very well saying you are the better side but they are second in the league and they`ve won the game. Steve (Evans) will probably say they deserved it but everybody who was here will know that wasn`t the case.`

Asked if the conditions, which got worse after half-time, had an impact on the game, Scott said, 'Well they shouldn`t have done. If anything the windy conditions were going their way and should have allowed us to do better. I mean, for ninety-five per cent of the time we were comfortable and never looked in danger but we missed some good chances. On other days they go in and it`s very frustrating.

'The frustrating thing is you tell them things on a Friday about what to do and how they`re going to play and they do it for most of the time but not all the time - and good teams do it for all the time. When we haven`t done it, it`s cost us and unfortunately it cost us today.

'But, we`ve got to take heart from the performance today and bounce back.`
