RUFC - Brett pleased to get his first goal

Rotherham United striker, Brett Williams, said that he had mixed emotions after scoring his first ever professional league goal but ending on the wrong side of a two-one scoreline.

Speaking to MillersPlayer after the defeat on Saturday, the twenty-three year old said, 'I think we played them off the pitch in the first half but we were a bit sloppy when we came out for the second half and conceded two goals and it was a bad result in the end.

'I`m not sure that we really picked up from conceding the first goal although we had a few chances in the second half and I think we were a little unlucky.

'I`m happy with the goal and I could have scored another one as well but I`m gutted about the result.`

Speaking about partnering Alex Revell up front, Brett said, 'He`s good to play with. He always works hard and wins that first flick on. He`s a good player who I enjoy playing alongside. '

Brett is on loan to the Millers from Reading but has been struggling with an injury which has kept him out of football for a while.

'I think every player needs a run of games to get their form up. Bradford was my first game coming back to fitness from the injury and I`ve had a good run out today and hopefully I can carry it on, get my match fitness up and get more goals.

'When I first came here my target was to get double figures but the injury was a bit of a knock-back so anywhere around six, seven or eight goals will be good but it`s really about putting in a shift and the team performance.

'I think we are a team who should be pushing for promotion. Today we were the dominant team but it was just one of those games where we were a bit unlucky. But that`s what Crawley do, they dig out results and they`ve done that today.`

Asked if he will be able to play next weekend in the FA Cup game at Shrewsbury, Brett said, 'I`ve got permission to play. I made a sub appearance against Barrow so hopefully I`ll get another start and we`ll get to round three. Shrewsbury will be a tough place to go to but our performances of late mean I think we will have a good chance.`
